About blocking

Can you add a ground plan on the left (blank) page for blocking?

Yes, you can add any image, including ground plans, to the blank sheet. We're working on an improved Blocking module - so you can easily attach multiple positions to your ground plan.

Are these dots blocking positions? Did he say they track to next page?

We display roles as a full-colored circle with initials. You can place them anywhere on the page to make simple blocking. We are working on a new and improved blocking system with multiple positions.

Can this be used to record blocking as well or is it just for cues?

"With the current version you can make simple blocking. You can place the roles and draw motion as arrows. You can add notes or comments as text as well.
We are currently working on an improved blocking feature with multiple positions as well as props. "

Can you add keys/ symbols/ shorthand used for blocking? and write in your blocking? are we able to create columns on the blocking page?

"The current version can make simple blocking. You can place the roles and draw motion as arrows. You can add any annotation to the page.
We are currently working on an improved blocking feature with multiple positions as well as props. "

Can you draw in blocking on the blank page and assign it to each actor and will it autopopulate blocking notes for each actor in a way that you can email or print the blocking notes for individual actors as needed?

The current version can make simple blocking.

Can you then number the moves to connect with the line/word in the script?

We currently working on an improved blocking feature. The core of this is that you have different positions. These positions can be matched with cues or lines in the script.

How do you indicate what line the actor moves?

You do the same as you do in your paper promt book. Draw it like you want it to be.

Can you assign a ground plan to a scene and have it automatically upload for all pages in that scene?

Not for now, but when we launch our new blocking it should be possible

Can you bookmark the specific place on the script where the actors would move?

Currently you would have to do that by hand. We are working on a new blocking where you can show the positions and link them to cues.

Can you have multiple of the same actor dots on one page? If things change enough on one script page, can you make two drawings?

It's not possible in our current simple blocking solution. But in the next upgraded blocking it will be possible.

Can the performers position be tracked from page to page?

With our upcoming blocking feature its possible to track position across pages.

Does the groundplan have to be added on each page or will it copy forward?

For now it has to, but with the new blocking, we will make it possible to copy forward.

When adding blocking, can you connect moves to the script?

In our upcoming blocking feature you can connect positions to the page.

About the Cast list

Once script is imported, can you add the actors name next to the characters name? Would doing this once per character populate throughout the rest of the script

Yes you can choose to add actors name, then it will be shown after role name in cast list.

Can you change the format of the scene breakdown?

You can export the scene breakdown and open it in Excel. Here you can make any formatting you might need. If you have specific needs do let us know.

Can you choose to break it down further, like with songs?

Currently, you can make the breakdown on pages, scenes, and acts. We're considering making additional options for categorizing pages.

Can we then adjust the scene breakdown like if one actor plays multiple roles

We are currently working on this. It will be an option in the next release. You can choose to either see Roles or Actors.

While this is great for breakdowns what if an actor is playing multiple roles and defining that instead of just characters

We are currently working on this. It will be an option in the next release. You can choose to either see Roles or Actors.

About Cues and Cue list

is that the only format of listing cues (visually)?

Yes, currently. You can export the cue list and format it in excel. Do share if you have specific requirements

Basically a different look than the bubbles on the calling script

Yes, you can change the look of the cues. Currently, we have the 3 most common appearances.

Can you group cues?

We can't currently group cues. But it's a great idea. We will put that on our list.

Is the stand-by for the cues auto-generated

We are working on the option to auto-generate stand-by cues. As you create a cue you can choose to have it's standa-by generated automatically. You need to place both on the page however.

Can the cues be on the right side? That is how I do it in my book,.

Yes, you can choose to place the script on either side making room for cues and annotations on the opporsite page. The cues can be placed freely on the two pages.

So you could spread the script out to accommodate many cues

Yes, that could be a way to do it.

About devices

Is it only still available for iPad? Will there be a version for Android or a webbased version for Windows?

Cue to Cue is currently available on the iPad only. We chose this device as the starting point because it has a good size and excellent usability in the theatre room.

We are currently working to provide access to more and more features, starting with cue and cast lists, through a webbrowser. This enables most users to access it on any device.

Helle, I would like to know if the app is suitable for all iPads, even the older ones?

The app works with ipad with ios 10.0 and later.

Is there an ETA for when this will be available on different platforms besides iPad if at all?

Our main focus is on developing the iPad app. But we continuously add lists to the website. We do not currently have an ETA on other devices.

Is it optimised for all iPad screen sizes?

Yes the app adapt to the device size.

You keep mentioning ipad and laptops, any plans for Android?

We have a path for deploying the app on Apple devices including Laptops. We do not currently have a plan for releasing on android. But we will look into the demand of other platforms

About Drawing

Can you also just make notes in the script or score?

Yes, you can draw on both pages in the script. You can basically do what you do in your paper script.

Can you change the highlight color to match your blocking drawing lines so to coordinate the lines the blocking are for?

You can choose the highlight color you like. It sounds like a good way of collaborating.

Can you confirm that you can (with an apple pencil) free hand write blocking on the script page (not on the drawing)?

You can use an Apple pencil and draw everywhere in the script on both pages, across the fold anywhere you need to.

Wait! Other people can scribble in my book???

Yes, but only if you let them. Cue to Cue is a complete registry of all the work done with the script. It's made for sharing. Everybody has their own layer(s). You choose which layers you want to see. But for a SM this is a great way to have access to see all work done on a show.

Can you write on the page with stylus pen?

Yes, you can use any stylus compatible with ipad.

Working with Layers

Is there an option to add a cue layer type? For example projection/video?

Yes, you can add as many layers as you want. You can rename the layers and give them a color of your choice. You can choose which layers you see and lock your layers to prevent others from editing them.

Is there a way to customize the layers for ASMs to be Props, Wardrobe, etc instead of lx cues?

That is a great idea. You can change the layers so any purpose by changing the name.

Can you control which layers others have access to?

Yes, as the script owner you can can choose which users can edit the specific layers.

If the light designer adds annotation that you don't want, and you turn off the light layer, does that turn off the light cues from the book as well?

When you turn off a layer, it's only off on your iPad. The light designer still sees his layer. If you wish to see the Lightning cues but not the lightning notes, then you can make two separate layers for these.

Working with the Script

How adaptable is this during rehearsals in new works or showcases for example where the orders of scenes and acts may change and be edited daily? Can I make these changes in Cue to Cue?

Currently you have to upload a new script to change the order of scenes and then move cues and annotations. We're working to improve this.

How does the app incorporate script changes, does everything track through automatically with A/B pages?

You can choose to exchange the entire script or edit the text on specific pages. Cues and annotations are not updated automatically to avoid mistakes.

If you highlight something in the script, can you view a list of what you've highlighted? (I'm thinking this could be useful for generating line notes.)

Great idea. We don't currently have this feature but we are considering adding it to play mode.

If you edit the script does it keep pagination

We import the script as is - so we recommend that you keep changes on the same pages and leave blank pages for deletions. It's the same practice most people use for paper scripts too.

About Backup and Data

Can you access the backup from your phone if the iPad walks off from the booth?

Not yet. But we are considering making a viewer for iphone.

Question about hot switching between mipads in performance in case of ipad crash?

You can login to multible devices and have an extra device ready at hand.

In performance, if the iPad crashes, is there a clever 3rd party piece of hardware that will act as a switcher hot mirror to a second Ipad running in tandem? ( Light a back up lighting desk, or projector switcher)

We havent heard of it.

What are the options of backing up everything in dreaded case of losing your work?!

All data is continuesly uploaded to our cloud server. Both as data and as a printcopy pdf. You can log on to any ipad and download the data. The print pdf is available from your profile page on our website.

But if you only have a digital copy, how do you deal with a crash? When lights or sound crash, you do without until they're back up.

If I miss light or sound in my performance, I stop the show and continue when I know what happened. I believe you do the same with an iPad. I have had tech issues, but no iPad crash for the last 4 years.

Once a show is done, can you download your data? Who owns the data?

Good question. You own your own data. We will provide all data when requested.

Can you download your data? Who owns the data?

You can export your cast and cue list as a csv file and open it in Excel. The script can be downloaded.

So the cue lists become running sheets for crews? What's the formatting like on those?

Cue list and Cast list can be exported as CSV files. CSV files can easily be imported and formatted in Excel or Numbers. So you can get the formatting you want. We provide all the data that we have.

Can this cue list be easily printed out?

Cue list can be exported as a csv-file (comma seperated values) and send to your e-mail. The CSV file can be opened in excel or numbers and printed from there.

About File fomats

Does it download from Google Drive?

Currently, you can add scripts and images from Dropbox and iCloud. We're are working on a solution to add more capabilities.

Would this work for documents that aren't scripts? Like dance calling sheets (which vary widely in format)?

You can upload files in either Word-format or pdf. For dance calling sheets we would recommend saving those as pdf and upload to Cue to Cue. But if you have special requirement do let us know the file format.  (Final draft and Apple pages were mentioned, we will have a look to that)

Is Word better to use than PDF for editing purposes so?

It depends. If you have a music score in your script, then pdf is the best option. If you work with a lot of changes to the script, then Word would be the best option.

what kind of image file does the ground plan need to be?

You can use any image format, but we do not support any 3d rendering formats.
